Pune Hit-and-Run: Senior Corporate HR Head Injured After Speeding Truck Rams Auto on Ganeshkhind Road
PUNE: A 45-year-old senior corporate HR professional sustained severe multiple fractures after a speeding truck rear-ended the auto-rickshaw she was travelling in on Ganeshkhind Road in the early hours of September 17.
The victim, identified as Priyanka Shyam Vanjari, a resident of Bavdhan and HR Head at a Balewadi-based firm, lodged an official complaint at the Chatushrungi Police Station following her discharge from hospital treatment.
Midnight Collision En Route to Airport
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place around 12:50 AM on September 17. Vanjari had hired an Uber auto-rickshaw (MH-12-RP-3088) from her residence in Bavdhan to reach Pune Airport, from where she was scheduled to board a flight to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, to visit her in-laws.
While the rickshaw was proceeding along Ganeshkhind Road near the ABIL House building and Cosmos Bank, a heavy truck (registration number MH-12-VL-2359) rammed into the three-wheeler from behind at high speed. The impact caused the auto-rickshaw to overturn twice before skidding across the asphalt.
Rescue and Surgery
Bystanders rushed to the scene, pulling both the severely injured passenger and the rickshaw driver out of the damaged vehicle. Vanjari was initially rushed to Sancheti Hospital for emergency trauma care, where medical evaluations revealed multiple fractures in her right wrist and fingers.
She was subsequently shifted to Jupiter Hospital in Baner, where she underwent extensive orthopedic surgery on her right hand, wrist, and fingers, in addition to receiving treatment for blunt trauma injuries to her right shoulder, waist, and leg.
Police Action
Following her recovery and discharge, Vanjari approached the Chatushrungi Police on September 30 to register an official statement before Probationary Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Meenakshi Jamdade.
The police have booked the unidentified driver of truck MH-12-VL-2359 for rash and negligent driving, causing grievous hurt by an act endangering personal safety, and related traffic offenses. Further investigation is underway to trace the truck and apprehend the absconding driver.
