PUNE: In a brazen housebreak theft, unidentified burglars targeted two flats in a housing society along the bustling Sinhagad Road area in Pune on Friday evening, decamping with gold ornaments, silver idols, and cash valued at ₹67,250.
The incident occurred at the Kudale Patil Heritage Co-operative Housing Society in Manik Baug between 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM on October 16, while the residents were away for barely two and a half hours.
According to the First Information statement lodged by 42-year-old Vrushali Manoj Kale at the Anandnagar Police Chowki (under Sinhagad Road Police Station), her 20-year-old son, Dhruv, had locked the flat around 5:00 PM to take his grandmother to a relative’s house in Kondhwa. When Kale returned from work around 7:30 PM, she discovered the door latch broken.
Upon entering the bedroom, she found the steel cupboard ransacked, with the key—which had been kept on top of the wardrobe—lying on the bed. Burglars had swept through the locker, stealing a gold mangalsutra worth ₹15,000, a 400-gram silver idol of Lord Ganesha valued at ₹20,000, assorted silver puja utensils, and ₹1,000 in cash.
The perpetrators also attempted to break into a second flat (C-15) belonging to neighbor Satish Bamgude (49) during the identical time window by tampering with and cutting the latch of his safety door.
Sinhagad Road Police have registered an offence against unknown suspects under relevant sections for housebreaking and theft. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the society premises and nearby arterial roads to identify the culprits.
