Supriya Sule Urges SPPU to Conduct Backlog Supplementary Exam for 2019 Pattern Engineering Students

PUNE: Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MP Supriya Sule has come out in strong support of engineering students under Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), urging university authorities and the state government to conduct an immediate backlog supplementary examination for the 2019 course pattern.

Taking to social media platform X, Sule highlighted the growing anxiety among engineering students whose entire academic year faces jeopardy due to alleged paper evaluation errors and technical glitches in question papers.

Engineering students under the 2019 pattern have been demanding a supplementary examination for the past two months to clear their backlogs and save their academic progress. Protests have intensified over the past few days on the university campus, with students traveling from rural and remote areas across the state to voice their grievances.

Questioning the university’s differential treatment, Sule pointed out that if students under the revised 2024 pattern were granted the opportunity to appear for backlog supplementary examinations, denying the same benefit to the 2019 pattern students is unjust. She emphasized that all students deserve equal academic opportunities.

Calling on the SPPU administration, the Vice-Chancellor, and State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil to intervene immediately, Sule stated:

“The university administration and the Vice-Chancellor must look into this urgently and take a positive, swift decision regarding conducting a backlog supplementary exam for the 2019 pattern students so that their academic year and careers are not put at risk. We stand firmly behind these students.”

The ongoing agitation at SPPU has drawn widespread attention, with student unions and political leaders pressing the administration to resolve the issue before the commencement of the next academic cycle.
