PUNE: In a shocking incident reflecting brazen street violence and rising intolerance, a 27-year-old garage owner was brutally assaulted, bitten by a pet dog, forced into a car, and robbed of Rs 34,500 in Bibwewadi, South Pune, after he addressed an acquaintance by his first name instead of calling him “Bhau” (brother).

The victim, identified as Omkar Shahuraj Jadhav (27), a resident of Pokale Vasti, Bibwewadi, has lodged a formal complaint at the Bibwewadi Police Station. The police have booked Uttam Kamble, Dhanlesh Kudale, Manish Shelke, and an unidentified Swift car driver.

The Midnight Confrontation

According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 3:00 AM on September 30, 2026. Jadhav was returning home on his scooter from Bibwewadi Ota. Near Gokul Hall, he spotted an acquaintance, Uttam Kamble. Kamble called out to him, to which Jadhav casually responded, “Bol ki Uttam” (Speak, Uttam).

Enraged at not being addressed respectfully, Kamble aggressively questioned him: “Will you call me Uttam now? Address me as Bhau… Don’t act bigger than me. Do you want enmity with me?” Despite Jadhav explaining that he had minor hearing difficulties and harbored no grudge, Kamble slapped him and commanded his pet dog to attack. The dog bit Jadhav repeatedly across both legs.

Kidnapping, Physical Brutality, and Extortion

Kamble then dialed accomplices, stating over the phone: “Come quickly, have to beat someone up.” Shortly after, Dhanlesh Kudale, Manish Shelke, and an unidentified driver arrived in a white Maruti Swift. Kudale assaulted Jadhav and shoved him into the car under duress.

While the vehicle was in motion, Kamble and Kudale hurled abuses, punched him repeatedly, and Kamble physically bit Jadhav on his forehead, left arm, and thigh. The assailants forcibly snatched Rs 34,500 in cash from Jadhav’s pocket—money kept aside to pay his family’s home loan installment.

Koyta Threat to Intervener

The assailants drove Jadhav to Ganpati Temple in Papal Vasti, pulled him out by his shirt, and ripped his clothes. Kamble picked up a bamboo stick and struck Jadhav on the head, arms, and back, shattering his iPhone 11 during the struggle.

When an onlooker, Amit Chorghe, rushed in to rescue Jadhav, Kamble attacked him as well, threatening to attack his residence with koytas (machetes) and kill him if he dared interfere.

Medical Condition and Police Action

The driver eventually dropped Jadhav back near Gokul Hall. Jadhav took anti-rabies injections at Oswal Clinic before approaching Bibwewadi Police Station. He was subsequently referred to Sassoon General Hospital and Kamala Nehru Hospital for detailed medical evaluation. A CT scan revealed a fracture to his nasal bone along with multiple bite and trauma injuries.

Following medical clearance, Bibwewadi police formally registered the case. Further investigation is underway under the supervision of Assistant Police Inspector (API) Garad.
