Painter Hired to Paint New Home Destroys a Family: Wife and Paramour Staged Husband’s Murder as Hit-and-Run in Bengaluru
In a calculated crime, a newly renovated home became the backdrop for a murder conspiracy in Bengaluru, Karnataka. What was initially reported as a hit-and-run traffic fatality unraveled during forensic investigation, exposing an extramarital affair between the victim’s wife and a painter hired to renovate their residence.
The accused painter had been contracted to paint the couple’s newly purchased house. During the course of the project, a relationship developed between him and the victim’s wife. Fearing discovery and seeking to eliminate the husband, the duo allegedly orchestrated a plot to kill him and disguise the crime as a fatal road accident.
Modus Operandi and Police Detection
The victim was targeted late at night while commuting home. The suspects allegedly engineered a high-speed collision using a vehicle, leaving the victim with fatal blunt-force injuries. They promptly filed a complaint suggesting an unidentified vehicle had fled the scene.
Traffic and local investigative units detected discrepancies between the vehicle’s damage profile and the victim’s injury patterns:
Digital Forensics & CCTV: Investigators analyzed surveillance footage along the victim’s route, which revealed a trail contradicting the timeline provided by the family.
Call Detail Records (CDR): Technical surveillance established frequent communication between the wife and the contractor prior to and immediately following the incident.
Interrogation: Confronted with digital evidence and location data, the suspects admitted during interrogation that the collision was intentional.
Legal Framework (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita – BNS)
Under Indian criminal law, the accused face charges under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):
Section 103(1) of BNS (Murder): The primary charge for intentionally causing the death of a person (corresponding to Section 302 of the erstwhile IPC).
Section 61 of BNS (Criminal Conspiracy): For planning, coordinating, and executing the premeditated crime (corresponding to Section 120B IPC).
Section 238 of BNS (Causing Disappearance of Evidence): For attempting to disguise a deliberate murder as an accidental hit-and-run to mislead authorities (corresponding to Section 201 IPC).
The suspects remain in judicial custody as the local police finalize the chargesheet for submission before the jurisdictional magistrate.
