Two girls drowned in Khadakwasla dam in Pune on Monday, May 15, 2023, while seven others were rescued. The incident took place around 9 am when a group of nine girls went to the dam to wash clothes. The girls were from Gore Khurd village in Pune district.
According to police, the girls were playing in the water when they were swept away by the current. Seven of the girls were rescued by locals and fire brigade personnel, but two of them could not be saved. The deceased girls have been identified as Khushi Sanjay Khurde (12) and Sheetal Bhagwan Titore (15).
The police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the matter.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of swimming in dams. Dams are often deep and have strong currents, making them dangerous for swimmers. It is important to be aware of the risks before swimming in any body of water.
