Pune City Live News : MSRTC Issues Key Updates on NCMC Smart Cards for Concession Travelers
Pune City Live News : The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced key updates regarding the registration, verification, and issuance of National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC) for concessionary passengers across Maharashtra. The card issuance drive covers Amrut Senior Citizens (aged 75 and above), regular senior citizens, and female passengers eligible for fare concessions.
To streamline the process and address operational challenges faced by commuters, the state transport authority has introduced several major procedural changes:
OTP Verification for Senior Citizens: Commuters under the Amrut Senior Citizen category who encounter fingerprint mismatch errors during biometric verification will have an alternative. Starting September 21, 2026, applicants can complete their NCMC card registration using a One-Time Password (OTP) sent to the mobile number linked to their government identity documents.
Replacement for Lost or Stolen Cards: Passengers whose NCMC cards are misplaced, lost, or stolen can now block their old cards and apply for a replacement card by paying a re-registration fee of Rs 199.
Card Distribution Timeline: Beneficiaries who completed their card registration on or before September 19 will be able to collect their physical cards starting September 25.
Travel via QR Code Receipt: Commuters registering on or after September 16 will receive a receipt bearing a printed QR code. Conducting conductor scans of this QR code on electronic ticket issuing machines (ETIM) will grant concession tickets immediately. This receipt remains valid for 30 days, giving cardholders sufficient time to activate and top up their physical NCMC smart cards.
MSRTC has urged all eligible beneficiaries to register for their NCMC smart cards promptly to prevent any disruption to their concessionary travel benefits.
