PUNE: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray launched a sharp critique against the Maharashtra administration on Monday, questioning the structural quality and civic preparedness around Pune Metro Line 3 in Hinjawadi, just ahead of its scheduled launch.

Taking to social media platform X, the former state environment minister expressed frustration that citizens in the global IT hub are being forced to stage protests simply to demand basic municipal infrastructure.

“It is the true misfortune of our state that one has to follow up with the Chief Minister for the basic civic necessities of Hinjawadi. Due to persistent pressure from locals, the Metro inauguration on November 3—which had previously been deferred by authorities—is now slated to take place digitally,” Thackeray stated.

Highlighting recent media disclosures regarding civil works in the area, Thackeray alleged that standards of construction remain severely substandard before commercial operations have even begun. He noted that even a brief spell of rain triggered widespread waterlogging across key stretches of Hinjawadi.

Characterizing the drainage failure as an indictment of the ruling coalition, Thackeray remarked that the ground reality paints a telltale picture of “contractor raj” thriving under the current dispensation. He formally urged the Chief Minister to take cognisance of the grievances submitted on behalf of Hinjawadi residents and resolve persistent civic bottlenecks on an urgent footing.

The Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 corridor—developed under a public-private partnership by PMRDA—is intended to decongest commuter traffic between Pune’s western IT district and the core city. However, local tech professionals, commuter associations, and residents have consistently raised flags over unpaved access lanes, incomplete drainage outfalls, and chronic arterial gridlocks.
